Privacy Policy
Last updated October 2026
This Privacy Policy ("Policy") explains what information My Counsel ("we", "us") collects when you use the My Counsel mobile app, web app and website (together, the "App"), why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. By creating an account or using the App you agree to this Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
1. Information We Collect
- Account information: your name, username, email address, account type (individual, office or office member), and an optional phone number and address. Your password is stored only as a one-way hash and can never be read by us.
- Lahore High Court sync identifiers: if you use court sync, the mobile number or CNIC (national identity card number) you add, an optional label, and the time and result of the last sync.
- Case and hearing information: case titles and numbers, courts, parties, judges, hearing dates, proceedings, notes and similar details that you enter or import. This may include information about your clients and other third parties.
- Attachments: documents and photos you choose to attach to a hearing, including those you take with your camera or select from your photo library, together with their file names, types and sizes.
- Office information: if you use an office account, the office name, its members, their roles and invitations.
- Device and technical information: device identifier and name, platform (iOS, Android or web), app version, push-notification token, IP address and the time you were last active.
- Notifications: records of the hearing reminders and account notifications sent to you.
- We do not collect your precise location or your contacts, and we do not use advertising identifiers, advertising trackers or third-party analytics.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To provide, maintain and improve the App, including your cause list, case diary and office features.
- To import or sync cases from official court websites at your request and on a schedule while sync is enabled.
- To send hearing reminders and important notifications, including push notifications to your device.
- To send emails such as verification codes, password-reset codes and office invitations.
- To secure accounts, prevent abuse and fix problems.
- To respond to your requests and support enquiries.
- To comply with legal obligations.
- We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not sell it.
3. Court Websites and Public Records
When you use court sync or import, we send the number, CNIC or case link you provided to the relevant official court website (such as the Lahore High Court, the Punjab District Judiciary or the Federal Courts portal) to retrieve the public cause-list or case record, and we store the result in your account. We are not affiliated with any court. Always verify hearing dates and case details against the official court record.
4. Sharing and Service Providers
We do not sell, rent or lease your personal information. We share it only as described below:
- Within your office: if you belong to an office account, cases, hearings and related details are visible to the office owner and to members according to the access the owner has granted.
- Service providers who process data on our behalf and are bound to protect it: Google Firebase (push notifications), Resend (email delivery), Cloudinary (storage of attachments), MongoDB Atlas (database hosting) and our cloud hosting provider.
- Legal and safety: when required by law, a court order or a lawful request, or to protect the rights, property or safety of My Counsel, our users or others.
- Business changes: if My Counsel is involved in a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, your information may be transferred, and we will tell you before it becomes subject to a different policy.
- With your consent, in any other case.
5. International Transfers
Some of our service providers operate servers outside Pakistan, so your information may be processed in other countries. Where this happens we rely on providers that apply appropriate safeguards to protect it.
6. Data Security
We protect your information with measures that include encrypted connections (HTTPS), one-way password hashing, access controls and rate limiting. Attachments are kept in private storage and are only available through short-lived, signed links after we check that you are allowed to see them. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. If a breach affecting your personal information occurs, we will notify you and the authorities as required by law.
7. Retention and Deletion
We keep your information for as long as your account is active. You can permanently delete your account at any time from Profile > Delete Account in the App (you will be asked for your password and to type DELETE), or by following the instructions at mycounsel.pk/delete-account. Deleting your account permanently removes your profile, cases, hearings, attachments, notifications and device tokens, and, if you own an office, the office and its invitations and memberships. Copies held in secure backups or system logs may remain for a limited period until they are overwritten in the normal course, and we may keep information we are legally required to retain.
8. Your Rights and Choices
Subject to applicable law, you may:
- Access and update your profile and case information in the App at any time.
- Ask us for a copy of your personal information, or ask us to correct it.
- Delete your account and data as described above.
- Turn push notifications on or off, and withdraw camera or photo access, at any time in your device settings. The App continues to work without them, but you will not receive reminders or be able to attach photos.
- Object to or restrict particular uses of your information, or withdraw your consent, by writing to us. Withdrawing consent may mean we can no longer provide parts of the service.
- We will respond to requests within a reasonable time, and in any case within 30 days.
9. Permissions on Your Device
The App may ask for permission to send notifications (for hearing reminders) and to use your camera or photo library and files (only when you choose to attach a document or photo). These permissions are optional and are used only for the purposes described here.
10. Children's Privacy
The App is intended for lawyers and legal professionals and is not directed at anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has given us information, please contact us and we will delete it.
11. Information About Others
If you enter information about clients or other people, you are responsible for having the right to do so and for keeping it confidential in line with your professional obligations. We process that information only to provide the App to you.
12. Third-Party Links
The App may link to third-party websites, including court websites. We are not responsible for their content or privacy practices.
13. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. We will post the new version here with a new "Last updated" date and, for material changes, tell you in the App or by email. Continued use of the App after the changes are posted means you accept the revised Policy.
14. Contact Us
For questions, requests or complaints about this Policy or your information, contact us at info@mycounsel.pk or +923224023863.
